The Long Awaited Birth Of Album 2
Well I did promise after my debut CD album in 2004, that it wouldn't be decades until the next project. That all went tits up! Life, events & stuff intervened as per-normal.
Fast foward to 2020 when lot's of us suddenly had time on our hands, thrust into limbo mode. I was up the loft rumaging about in a box of old diary's, after two hours on my electricians creaky knees & unbearable summer heat I scrambled down, storing them in a cabinet drawer to peruse later with a G&T. It's been an obsession since 1968 (age 10) scribbling down thoughts on diary pages, something I've always done.
Anyway, my good drummer pal Jack Corder said to me in 2022, "Why don't you write another album Russ?". My inner voice then told me, before I get any older I better get this done, so I have Jack to thank for the encouragment to do so. Jack helped me record the demo songs (just voice & guitar) in his newly built home-studio: 'CNS Recordings'. I promptly got to the task of compiling loads of riffs, odd chord sequences, & sketches of ideas that I'd amassed over the intervening years, and started the project.
I have a problem with lyrics they don't come easy, unlike my music ideas which often come to mind. I'm fine noodling on the 6-string acoustic for the muse to take hold, but struggle to find the right wording to match. So hey presto! A lightbulb moment then arose for lyrical ideas. After reading through my diary scribbles I found plenty of material to write about, lyrically enough for a double length album, a musical memoir so to speak.
It's all a bit daunting, feels like bearing ones soul revealing my inner private thoughts, but my songwriting friends tell me thats a good way to communicate to your potential audience, so I'm doing just that.
The album is called 'A Life's Backwaters & Tributaries', a musical history of my life. It will be a 15-song album with three of the tracks co-written, also including one cover song and the remaining 11 tunes being self-penned. Possibly it will be a double CD with artwork/booklet etc, including a track download option as well.
I secretly dream of a double gate-fold vinyl LP, but that's serious wishful thinking as it costs an arm & a leg to produce. Tina & I might win the lottery, then I could put it out as a 4 x 10" E.P' boxset with a lavish booklet, including stickers + badges etc, ha, ha stop it Russ back to reality!
Seriously though, I'm hoping that all of you fine music-loving people out there will like it, as I'm putting all my avaliable time & energy into the project. It's in me, and it's surely gotta come out.
Cheers Russxx
